Case Study – Heita
Overview
Heita is a QR code-based smart doorbell system that immediately notifies its users of who’s at their door, regardless of their location. The guests can easily contact them by scanning the QR code with any smartphone, facilitating instant, real-time communication. Heita was conceived as a cost-free alternative to pricey smart doorbells, which are often challenging to set up and depend on a broadband connection.
Problems
- 1. Outdated doorbells need installation.
- 2. There is no way to contact the homeowner if they are out.
- 3. Smart doorbells can be costly.
- 4. Data security concerns.
Key Requirements
Our goal was to build an app that generates and assigns a distinct QR code to every homeowner. which can be displayed at the entrance. When guests visit, they can simply scan this QR code with their smartphone, which would trigger an automatic call to the homeowner’s phone. This solution ensures homeowners are accessible to their visitors at any moment, wherever they are.

Results
The app uses WebRTC, which enables high-speed audio/video communication and data sharing between browsers and mobile applications over peer-to-peer networks with minimal latency. Using Firebase, the system ensures instant data synchronization and effective user authentication through Firebase's real-time database and authentication. It focuses on security and uses SSL/TLS and Firebase security rules for full data encryption and privacy. This secure framework allows customers to reach homeowners using a separate QR code, leveraging the capabilities of WebRTC and Firebase.
Current Status
The app gives a one-of-a-kind experience for guests, ease and safety for homeowners, and is overall a dynamic, efficient, and secure solution for all.
